Mix in some Hill Country barbecue and exciting nightlife venues, and there’s just no reason to stay away from Austin, Texas.

So, what do you like to do on winter RV camping trips? Austin’s just down the road from popular Lake Travis, where lighted fishing docks make winter fishing a nighttime treat, according to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. Austin also has nearly two hundred miles of trails throughout the metro area for bikers, hikers and runners. When you’ve explored Texas’ capital city to your heart’s content, you can travel through the beautiful Hill Country.

Austin is also know for its real Texas barbeque. There are so many barbeque restaurants in the city, you won’t know which to visit first!

One more reason RV campers go to Austin in winter is this Texas city’s thriving music scene. You won’t want to leave Austin without venturing downtown, where clubs with live shows line the streets in every direction.

There are plenty of places to stay in Austin. Some of the top rated places are: La Hacienda RV Resort, adjacent to Lake Travis; Austin Lone Star RV Resort; and Camper Resort on Hudson Bend at Lake Travis.

Thanksgiving is one of the biggest travel weekends in America, and RVers are out in force, crossing the country in their RVs to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Here are a few exciting destinations that have holiday traditions and celebrations that are well worth a visit during Thanksgiving.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – New York, NY
Why not go see it live and in person? So this year grab a front row seat for the parade, shop New York on Black Friday and go ice skating at Rockefeller Center. Click here for more information on Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Parade – Plymouth, MA
What could be better than spending Thanksgiving where our forefathers celebrated their first Thanksgiving with the Native Americans? The celebration of Thanksgiving becomes history-brought-to-life as Pilgrims, Native Americans, Soldiers, Patriots, and Pioneers proudly climb out of the history books and onto the streets of Plymouth. Click here for more information on America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Parade.

Holiday River Parade – San Antonio, TX
The reason to visit San Antonio for Thanksgiving is for the day after – the real draw is the Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony, held every year on the River Walk. Plus, San Antonia has plenty of history and lots to see and do. Click here for more information on the Holiday River Parade.

October is the perfect month to see the beauty of the dramatic fall colors in wooded areas while enjoying some of the cooler temperatures. Many places have their annual autumn festivals this time of the year as well. Below are 3 of the best places to visit this fall!

Great Smoky Mountains

The Great Smoky Mountains has vivid autumn colors during the fall months. The park itself offers several RV campgrounds. Travelers can go bike riding, hiking and just enjoy the fresh outdoors.

White Mountains, NH

New Hampshire’s White Mountains offer many outdoors activities: hiking, backpacking, paddling, cycling, fishing… they even have Applefest Family Weekends.

New England

New England is a great place to visit during the fall. Does anything taste better than a crisp, snappy apple when you’ve been out hiking in the cool autumn air? Autumn is synonymous with apple harvest time in New England. Stay at the state park or look into the many options at the various orchards.

You have heard the term staycation used a lot more over the last few years due to the rise of gas prices and the higher cost of traveling. Now more than ever people are deciding to stay closer to home to save money so they can continue camping, RVing, and doing the outdoor activities they love at a cheaper price.

There is nothing wrong with camping locally, you don’t have to leave your state or even your own city to relax and enjoy time away from your normal day to day life. I bet there are many of you that are avid campers that have yet to camp at all the campgrounds in your state. Driving down a main state highway you always see signs for campgrounds, have you stayed at every campground you have ever past, most likely not. Sometimes you will find some of the best campgrounds less than a few hours from your home.

Even though you stay close to home, you won’t feel like you are. You will be able to relax and feel like you are miles from home when you are sitting around enjoying the campfire. Another plus to staying closer to home means that you can stay longer. If you spend a day traveling some where that is one less day you have to relax around the campsite.

Visit your state government website, to view a full list of campgrounds in your state. Take a look you will be surprised at what you find.

Activities: Camping, RVing, Hiking, Canoeing, Site Seeing, Beaches, Fishing, Bike Trails, and More.

Northern Michigan in the Fall – is one of the most beautiful places to travel, camp, or take a scenic tour, due to the changing colors of the leaves. Michigan is known for its Great Lakes but also has its beautiful country side and national forests where you will find the most stunning canvas of colors.

Whether you are an RVer, a camper, or just a site seer, you will find your adventure of Northern Michigan starting about 30 minutes North of the Tri-Cities, the Midland-Bay City-Saginaw area if you are coming from Detroit. If you are coming from the Grand Rapids area you will start your adventure about an hour North in the Manistee National Forest.

Heading North from Grand Rapids you can choose to follow the shore line and take US31 into Ludington and continue North to Manistee and Traverse City. If you are looking for more country side and rolling hills you can take US131 North to Cadillac and then continue further North to Kalkaska and Petoskey.

Coming North from Detroit or Flint you can choose to see more country side by taking US10 North of Midland to Clare then follow US127 North past Houghton Lake into Grayling. Then you can continue North on I75 to Mackinaw and the Upper Peninsula where you will find much more country side and national forests.
